Network Engineering

Network engineering involves designing, building, and maintaining computer networks to ensure efficient and secure data transmission. Network engineers configure and troubleshoot network devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls. They implement network security measures to protect against cyber threats and ensure data integrity. Network engineers also monitor network performance, identify issues, and optimize network architecture for scalability and reliability. By combining technical expertise with problem-solving skills, network engineers keep networks running smoothly and securely.

Upon course completion students will be able to:

  •  Network design and architecture: Understanding of network design principles, including topology, scalability, and security.
  •  Network protocols: Knowledge of network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and routing protocols like OSPF and EIGRP.
  •  Network device configuration: Skills in configuring and managing network devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
  •  Network security: Understanding of network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and encryption.
  •  Troubleshooting and debugging: Ability to identify and resolve network issues using tools like ping, traceroute, and packet capture.
  •  Network monitoring and management: Knowledge of network monitoring tools and techniques, including SNMP, NetFlow, and network performance monitoring.
  •  Wireless networking: Understanding of wireless networking principles, including Wi-Fi standards, configuration, and security.
  •  Network architecture and implementation: Skills in designing and implementing network architectures, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and virtual private networks (VPNs).
